Summer Newsletter: Bike Parade

This year on the 3rd of July, Farmington families who found themselves in town for the holiday weekend, hopped aboard their bikes, scooters, wagons, and strollers to parade through the neighborhood! The Naperville Fire Department led the group from Thaxton and Alexandria, down Remington, to Farmington Park. Paraders were met with popsicles and a raffle for those who decorated their ride. Congratulations to our winners, Evan Borella, Jimmy Walsh, and Alyssa Fitzgerald! Many thanks to all the parents who corralled the kids along the route, and especially to Ginny McCormick and Tiffany Dardis for their assistance in organizing and running the event. A great time was had by all – we are looking forward to making this an annual tradition!

Summer Newsletter: Ladies Swap-o-Rama

Thank you to all the ladies that came out to enjoy a wonderful evening at Maureen Lein’s house for the Ladies Swap-o-Rama. Many of us came home with great “swaps” such as jewelry, purses, scarves and much more. We met many new friends while we enjoyed music, dancing and mixed drinks from the bartender. This is always a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, I look forward to the next one which will be held in September.

Summer Newsletter: Landscaping Update

In June, five yards of color enhanced hardwood mulch was placed at our Farmington entrances at Cassin & Naper and Remington & 87th. The order was handled through B & B
Landscaping, with the mulch coming from Naperville Mulch Sales. The mulch has really enhanced the newly painted Farmington signs! To keep our flowers and plants in good shape, we have the following summer volunteers for watering: Lily Chen and Randa Siblik for the Cassin/Naper entrance northside Robert Maitland for the Cassin/Naper entrance southside Dan & Liz Zurek for the Remington/87th entrance. A product called “Wet & Forget” has been applied twice to the column at the southside Cassin & Naper entrance to try to clean the brick. This product has no bleach or caustic chemicals. A third and last application of the product will be done later in July. The product seems to clean and lighten the brick, to more closely match the column on the northside at Cassin. We’ll see if there is any improvement in the color, or we might have to use a pressure washer next time or possibly paint the columns. We’ll be considering a few new plants/flowers for the Cassin entrance over the coming weeks. If you have any suggestions or see any good sales this summer or fall, please email Bill Flater. Thanks to our volunteers for stepping up to help keep our Farmington entrances looking great!

Summer Newsletter: Ice Cream Social and Bags in the Park

Due to the incredible rain storm that turned Farmington Park into Lake Farmington on the last day of school, we combined our annual end of the school year Ice Cream Social with our monthly Bags in the Park on Friday, June 17th. Attendance was great, and both adults and children had a very fun evening. Many thanks to Jennifer Ramey, Jennie Amato, Dina Kartsonas, Sharon Hasa, and Maureen Lein for planning and running the event!

Our final Bags in the Park will be Friday, August 12th, from 6:30pm till dark. Come on out with your family to Farmington Park. There is plenty for the kids to do, and this is a great opportunity for you to catch up with your neighbors and see how your skills match up with others.

Summer Newsletter: President’s Message

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES SO THAT YOU MAY CONTINUE TO RECEIVE THIS NEWSLETTER AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL OF THE FARMINGTON EVENTS!

What great events we have had so far in 2011, I cannot tell you how excited I am about the ones that are around the corner such as the garage sale, deck crawl and block party. We held our first annual bike parade on July 3rd which was a huge success. Kids and adults participated in the decorating of their bikes and the 4th of July spirit was impressive. The bikers rode through Farmington following the Naperville fire truck and then finished it off with well-deserved popsicles at the park. The Children’s Ice Cream Social and Bags in the park had a great turnout and fun was had by all. As you know these events are only available to those families who pay their dues so please if you have not done so already, let’s get those turned in. Within the last couple of months we have had many new families move into Farmington. We are looking forward to getting to know all of them better and to show them how wonderful our Farmington community is. I hope you enjoy your newsletter, we have many wonderful stories so please take the time to read them and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer.

This spring we had the entrance signs painted. We returned to the hunter green and gold color scheme that the previous entrance signs sported. Sorry for the black & white photo. You’ll have to take our word for it, or take a drive on over to see for yourselves!
